Brač is an island in the Adriatic Sea within Croatia, with an area of 396 km², making it the largest island in Dalmatia, and the third largest in the Adriatic. Its tallest peak, Vidova Gora, or Mount St. Vid, stands at 778 m, making it the highest island point in the Adriatic. The island has a population of 13,000, living in numerous little towns, ranging from the main town Supetar, with more than 3,500 inhabitants, to Novo Selo, where only a dozen people live. Bol Airport on Brač is the largest airport of all islands surrounding Split.

The climate of the island determines its position and is characterized by all the characteristics of Mediterranean climate: hot and dry summers and mild winters. Brac belongs to the sunniest Adriatic area with about 2700 hours of sunshine a year, somewhere between Split and Hvar. The average winter temperature is 9°C and summer 25°C. Snow is falling in only about 2 days and does not retain more than 10 hours. Last Bura blows in March three times, the people known as "3 March bura winds". Summer breeze blowing almost every day, known as the mistral. Precipitation is more frequent in the interior of the island and on its eastern side. Differences in rainfall ranging from 700 mm annual average in Sutivan, up to 1400 mm for the position of Dol. The average temperature is 24°C in summer and in winter 14°C. Since the island has no major towns or heavy industry, pollution is almost nonexistent.
